If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I have a soft spot for great outerwear, from timeless trenches and classic wool coats to effortless, throw-on jackets. I’ve rounded up eighteen pieces (plus, a bonus high street edit at then end) I’m eyeing for the transitional season, and they’re the staples I think are worth leaning on in the months ahead. Keep scrolling for the full edit, complete with links and prices.

Trench Coats

Starting off with trench coats, the ultimate transitional staple! They’re lightweight yet structured, practical enough for unpredictable weather, and effortlessly chic. A good trench instantly pulls an outfit together, whether layered over tailoring, denim, or even a dress and trainers. Timeless and versatile, it’s one of those pieces you’ll reach for year after year. There are a few I already have my eye on for the upcoming season…

Róhe scarf-effect wool trench coat, £1,300.00

The perfect hybrid between a coat and a trench. Designed in a classic trench style but made from a mid-weight fabric that works just as well for colder weather. It reminds me of my Stella McCartney trench coat I got back in January. You can size down in this style!

Burberry Fitzrovia cotton-garbadine trench, £2,090.00

ROHÉ oversized double-breasted trench coat, £1,250.00

The Frankie Shop Mavis oversized trench coat, £330.00

You can size down in this one as it is very oversized. I tried an XS and it was still quite roomy!

Toteme cotton-blend trench coat, £910.00

Wardrobe NYC release 04 belted trench, £836.00

Jackets

And then there are jackets, the true in-between heroes of a transitional wardrobe. From cropped styles to boxy silhouettes, they’re perfect for layering and add just the right amount of warmth without feeling too heavy. A classic leather jacket is always a go-to, instantly elevating even the simplest jeans and tee look, while a tailored blazer or bomber makes for an easy throw-on option. I think cropped jackets in particular are going to be big this season, especially when paired with high-waisted trousers.
